Yesha Harsora, a rising actress in the Indian television industry, is currently in the spotlight for her role as Tapasya in the popular TV show Jagadhatri. Her negative yet impactful character has captured the attention of viewers. In a recent exclusive interview, she opened up about the challenges of playing a negative role, audience reactions, bonding with co-actors, and personal experiences from her childhood. Here are the key excerpts from the conversation.

How do you see the love your show Jagadhatri is receiving?

For an actor, audience appreciation is the greatest achievement. My co-actors, fans, family, and relatives are all praising the character of Tapasya. It feels really good when people say we are doing a good job. Whether viewers love or hate the character, it shows that we are performing our roles correctly.

How similar is your character Tapasya to you in real life?
Tapasya is a little bubbly, which I am too in real life. But she can sometimes be very rude and negative, which I cannot fully relate to. She stands up for herself, which I also do, but the way she treats others on the show cannot be compared to real life.

You receive a lot of negative comments because of your negative character. How do you handle that?
If positive characters get love, it means they are doing well. And if negative characters receive hate, it means I am performing my role convincingly. Many viewers write that Tapasya should get slapped, and I jokingly say—don’t give her two, give her four! After her marriage to Rudra, Tapasya’s character has evolved. Now she speaks her mind, and many of her actions are justified.

What was your first reaction when this role was offered to you?
Initially, I didn’t want to take this role because negative roles in daily soaps often lead to typecasting. But my sister and the production house convinced me that this is a very strong character and a crucial part of the show. I realized I’m still young and can experiment, and this decision has turned out to be the right one.

Did you do any special preparation for this role?

I don’t do any specific preparation. I just need a character briefing. I build the character in my mind and perform according to the scenes. As the story progresses, the character also develops naturally.

How is your bonding with your co-actors?
Off-screen understanding is very important for on-screen chemistry. I share many scenes with Rudra, which has made us good friends. We discuss scenes and give each other suggestions, which improves our performance.

You spoke about your childhood experiences with color bias. Can you elaborate?
As a child, I heard many comments about my skin tone, which hurt me. People used to compare me to others. But I worked on myself, built my confidence, and learned that a person cannot be judged by their skin color. Even in shows like The Family Man, actors have portrayed different skin tones beautifully. Talent is bigger than skin tone.

What does love and relationships mean to you?
For me, love means comfort and understanding. My schedule is hectic, so I want a partner who understands my work. Love is beautiful, but it requires selflessness.
